Who wins in a fight between a hippopotamus and a crocodile?

Despite their seemingly calm nature, hippos are incredibly territorial and aggressive, especially when they feel threatened. On average, they can run at speeds of up to 30 km/h (19 mph) on land, making them faster than most humans. In comparison, the average human running speed is around 8 km/h (5 mph), and even well-trained runners typically top out at speeds of 20-25 km/h (12-15 mph).

Another fascinating fact about hippos is that, despite their massive size and inability to swim, they can stay submerged underwater for up to 5 minutes at a time, and they can even sleep underwater, using a reflex to resurface for air without waking up!

When a hippopotamus and a crocodile fight, the hippopotamus usually comes out on top. Despite the crocodile’s strong bite and powerful jaws, hippos have thick, tough skin that acts as a natural armor. They are also incredibly strong and aggressive, especially when they feel threatened. Hippos can crush a crocodile with a single bite or stomp, and they are known to chase crocodiles out of their territory.

Interestingly, while crocodiles are usually top predators in their environment, they tend to avoid fully confronting hippos due to their sheer size and strength. In a battle between the two, the hippopotamus is more likely to win, especially if it is defending its territory.
